Emergency services were scrambled to Dundee Airport after a flight reported a technical fault shortly after take-off.
Loganair flight LM661 departed from Dundee Airport 17 minutes later than scheduled at 1.32pm on Sunday.
The aircraft was bound for Belfast City Airport before an issue was declared near Tillicoultry, at around 1.50pm.
Images from Flightradar24 (below) showed the aircraft returning to Dundee before circling over the airport several times.
As the aircraft prepared to land, people travelling along Riverside Drive said emergency services were “rushing to the scene”.
One driver said: “We wondered what was going on.
“There were four fire engines, two ambulances and two police vehicles at the airport.
“When we drove past we couldn’t see anything happening.”
A spokesman from HIAL- Dundee Airport’s operator – confirmed the aircraft landed safely.
‘Aircraft reported a technical issue’
He said: “Airport fire services were mobilised after an aircraft reported a technical issue following departure from Dundee shortly before 2pm.
“External emergency services were also mobilised.
“The aircraft returned safely to the airport at approximately 2.15pm.”
It remains unclear how many crew and passengers were onboard.
Emergency service response
A spokeswoman for Police Scotland said: “At around 1.50pm, police and emergency services were called after a plane returned shortly after take-off from Dundee Airport due to technical issues.
“The plane landed safely at around 2.15pm and no one onboard required medical treatment.
“No further police action was required.”
The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said appliances from Macalpine Road and Blackness fire stations attended.
Loganair has been approached for comment.
