A new multi-use games area is to be built at a Broughty Ferry park.
Likely to include a playground space with equipment for a variety of activities, from basketball hoops to goalposts, it is to be built at Gillies Park in Barnhill.
A consultation will be held to establish the views and needs of the local community before the sports ground is built.
The news was revealed by Ferry ward councillor Kevin Cordell in a letter to the Barnhill Residents and Tenants Association.
Mr Cordell said: “When I attended the most recent meeting of the group on January 17, it was clear there was a tremendous appetite for this enhancement to the facilities on offer in the area.
“I felt this was something that should be more than an aspiration and I immediately contacted the Convener of Neighbourhood Services, Councillor John Alexander, and requested a sit-down with him and the relevant departmental officers to discuss how we could move this forward.”
That meeting took place on February 1.
Mr Cordell continued: “I was not only able to highlight the work done by the residents group but I was also able reiterate my support for the project.
“I was delighted with the support I received from Councillor Alexander and the officers and I can only thank them for their support.”
Deputy convener of neighbourhood services Vari McDonald also attended the meeting, and said: “It was clear from my attendance that night the group is committed to this project 100%.
“It is further good news for Barnhill and comes only a couple of years after the long awaited and much needed extension to Barnhill Primary School.”
