Police are investigating a suspected ram-raid break-in at a Dundee Co-op on Tuesday in which thieves made off with alcohol and scratchcards.
Officers including forensics specialists were called to the shop on Lawers Drive in Panmurefield in the early hours of the morning.
The glass front doors to the store have been smashed in and the shop was closed all day for repairs.
It is hoped the store will re-open on Wednesday and police say an investigation is ongoing.
Scratchcards and alcohol stolen from Panmurefield Co-op
A spokesperson for Co-op said: “There was an incident at our Panmurefield store in the early hours of this morning, when two intruders entered the store.
“We appeal for anyone who may have seen or heard anything to come forward to police, who are investigating.”
The spokesperson added that the thieves were unable to access all areas of the store but that a quantity of alcohol and scratchcards had been stolen.
Meanwhile the cost of the repairs and the value of the items taken was still to be determined.
Steve Kelly, owner of nearby kitchens firm Dream Doors Dundee, says the incident is “concerning”.
He said: “When I came at first and saw the police I thought there had been a wee bump on the road.
“After speaking with the police and the staff at the shop they said there had been a break-in involving a vehicle.
“We’ve had the kitchen business here for just under two years but I understand the Co-op suffered a similar break-in around five years ago.
“It’s concerning to hear what happened and there certainly looks to be a bit of damage at the entrance.”
Inquiries ongoing
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Officers received a report of a theft by housebreaking at a premises on Lawers Drive around 4.50am on Tuesday.
Inquiries into the incident are ongoing.”
