Two men were arrested in Dundee after a 16-mile police pursuit sparked by an alleged knifepoint theft at an Arbroath supermarket.
Several police units were at the Adamson Court multis on Tuesday afternoon, before two men – aged 22 and 24 – were arrested.
Police Inspector David Gibson said officers received a report of shoplifting at an Arbroath supermarket.
Two men allegedly “presented a knife” at staff before fleeing shortly before 11am.
Police then chased the vehicle to Kirk Street in Dundee, where the men reportedly abandoned the car and made off on foot.
Witnesses said police searched both Elders Court and Adamson Court multis before the men were led away by officers.
‘Police cars everywhere’ at Adamson Court
One resident, who did not wish to be named, said: “The police were all huddled at the entrance of Elders Court before they focused their attention on Adamson Court.
“I believe the two men were arrested on the ground floor but it was all going on in the car park.
“There were police cars everywhere.”
Vehicle uplifted after police chase
Those living on Kirk Street told The Courier a vehicle was uplifted as part of the police incident.
One woman said: “A vehicle was uplifted from Kirk Street.
“From what we could see the police had also blocked off a footpath near the play park beside Adamson Court.
“One of their vehicles was on the footpath there.
“We had no idea what exactly was going on but there were police cars scattered across the car park.”
