Demolition work has begun on a former Dundee Odeon cinema.
The building, at The Stack Retail Park in Lochee, is being knocked down to make way for a Home Bargains.
Video (above) and pictures (below) show a huge hole has been torn in the side of the old cinema.
The Odeon opened in 1993 but shut eight years later and has lain derelict since.
The Stack owner TJ Morris was given approval earlier this year to demolish the building and replace it with Home Bargains.
The new development will include a garden centre and cafe, and will create 50 full-time equivalent jobs.
No timescales have yet been confirmed for the construction of the new store.
The existing Home Bargains shop will be replaced with another retailer.
The Odeon was once one of the park’s main attractions alongside a Megabowl bowling alley, the Venue nightclub, Buzz Bar pub, Fatty Arbuckle’s restaurant and a Gala Bingo hall.
Mark McManus, who played DCI Jim Taggart in the iconic detective show, opened the Odeon to the public in 1993.
However, several businesses at the leisure complex shut down throughout the 1990s, leading to the Odeon’s demise in 2002.
Pictures taken before its demolition showed the cinema virtually frozen in time with several of the original features still present.
The Stack Retail Park went into administration in 2008 and was eventually bought over by Home Bargains owner T.J Morris Ltd in 2012.
The park is now home to Aldi, Smyths, The Range, Buzz Bingo and The Gym Group.
A new Greggs drive-thru outlet is also planned for a site near the entrance of the park.
T.J.Morris said they were unable to comment.
