A Broughty Ferry family have told of their shock after thieves burst into their house and stole from them while they were home.
The Douglas Terrace family were sitting in their home when three intruders entered through the back door.
The trio – which consisted of two men and a women – grabbed a handbag, a purse, a pair of sunglasses and a set of car keys before running out of the house at around 7.30pm on Sunday.
Homeowner chased thieves through Broughty Ferry in his car
They were followed by the homeowner, who got into his car to chase them.
The man, who asked to remain anonymous, said: “The adrenaline just started pumping.
“I was in sandals so I couldn’t run after them, instead I got in the car.
“I followed two of them to Fairfield Road. I was about to confront them but then I thought about it and realised it was silly to try.”
The family were able to photograph the thieves and have passed the pictures and CCTV to the police.
Following the theft, the intruders attempted to use the bank card to make three purchases in Douglas.
A member of the family added: “They went on a shopping spree.
“The first two purchases went through but we cancelled the card so the third one was blocked.
“We don’t know what they tried to buy yet.”
Broughty Ferry residents warned to keep doors locked
The family have now increased their security, and have warned other Broughty Ferry residents to do the same.
The homeowner said: “We’ve already had all the locks changed.
“Our advice to others would be to keep all the doors locked.
“They just snuck in while we were all in the house. It’s not something we ever expected to happen.
“They were only in the house for 15 or 20 seconds – they just grabbed the first things they saw and ran.”
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 7.40pm on Sunday, officers received reports of theft from a property on Douglas Terrace, Dundee.
“Personal items were taken and inquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances.”
