Jax Finnegan, who represents the North East Ward, said: “I learned of the attack via social media, it had been stated it was a brutal and life-threatening attack.
“I am sure the police are investigating this thoroughly.
“My thoughts go out to the young person and family wishing a full recovery.
“This is a very serious barbaric assault on a youngster, who should be safe to be play outside in the evenings.”
She added: “I have spoken with some youths who usually hang out in this area, but were not present on the evening.
“They are very shaken up, shocked and frightened by this attack.
“This is the first, and must be the last, incidence of violence with youths in the area I have been made aware of.”
Steven Rome, a councillor for the same ward, said: “I am unable to add further to what the police have stated other than to reiterate my shock and disgust at this incident and ask anyone with useful information to please contact the police using the details provided.”

The brutal attack has also prompted shock online, as Dundonians took to Facebook to express their outrage.
Lesley Falconer said: “This made me sick to my stomach, imagining it being my son.
“Some kids seem to be absolutely feral nowadays, causing nothing but trouble and vandalism is rife.
“They say you can’t blame the parents but you should surely know what kind of personality your child has and what kind of crowd they hang around with.”
Many are calling for the attackers to be brought to justice, and have wished for the victim to make a speedy recovery.
Susan Birrell said: “My heart aches for this boy and his family, praying he makes a full recovery.
“I hope these boys get caught.”
