Residents in the Whitfield and Fintry areas of Dundee are being asked to store water ahead of repairs to a burst water main later tonight.
Scottish Water is to be carrying out the work on the burst nine-inch water main at the junction of Salton Crescent and Berwick Drive.
Repairs are scheduled to begin after 11pm tonight with work due to be completed by Wednesday morning.
Thousands affected by burst
The work comes after extensive disruption to water supplies in the north-east of Dundee last week due to the burst.
Last Wednesday evening a huge hole appeared near the junction with Pitkerro Road after the main burst – flooding the area near the Iceland supermarket.
Thousands were left without water overnight last Wednesday. Longhaugh Road remains closed.
A spokesperson for Scottish Water said: “We will be carrying out essential repairs to a burst nine inch water main later this evening at the junction of Salton Crescent and Berwick Drive in Dundee.
“This nine-inch water main supplies customers in the Whitfield, Baldovie and nearby surrounding areas of north-east Dundee.
“Repairs are scheduled to commence after 11pm on Tuesday to minimise any potential disruption, and we ask customers in these areas to store water in advance.”
Overnight repairs Tuesday
The spokesperson added: “Our teams have made arrangements to alter the network meaning we do not anticipate any impact on customer supplies.
“However due to the nature of this work there be no water, low or intermittent water pressure or discoloured water for a short period of time whilst repairs are carried out.
“Any customers experiencing discoloured water should run the cold water kitchen tap at a reduced flow until this runs clear and shouldn’t use any other taps or water appliances whilst doing so.
“This can take up to one to two hours to run clear.”
