The M&S Foodhall in Dundee city centre is closed after a break-in and serious assault in the early hours of Wednesday.
Police say a 46-year-old man has been taken to hospital following the incident which was reported at around 4am.
A 40-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the incident and is expected to appear at Dundee Sheriff Court on Thursday.
Officers remained at the scene, opposite the Olympia, guarding a cordon outside the shop on the Seagate side of the supermarket, at the entrance to a path which runs to the Gallagher Retail Park.
A Police Scotland spokeswoman told The Courier: “Around 4am on Wednesday officers were called to a report of a break-in and serious assault at a shop in Gallagher Retail Park.
“Emergency services attended and a 46-year-old man was taken by ambulance to Ninewells Hospital in Dundee.
“A 40-year-old man has been arrested and charged in connection with the incident. He is due to appear at Dundee Sheriff Court on Thursday, 13 October, 2022.
M&S shoppers being turned away
A sign outside the store says it will remain closed “until further notice” due to the incident and apologises for the inconvenience.
Shoppers arriving at the store are being turned away at the door.
A spokesperson for Marks and Spencer said: “Our foodhall at The Docks in Dundee is currently closed due to an incident that took place this morning.
“Due to an ongoing police investigation we are not able to comment further at this stage.”
