Temporary speed limits on the A90 north of Dundee could remain until Spring 2023 – three years after they were put in place.
It is the third time SSE has extended the restrictions, which were first put in place in March 2020.
Signs on the carriageway initially limit drivers to 50mph before dropping to 30mph.
The limits, on the dual carriageway for around two miles between Dundee and Forfar, allow construction traffic access to SSE’s Seagreen wind energy project.
Originally, project managers for Seagreen said that the speed limits would be removed by the end of 2021.
This was later extended until September this year, and now again until Spring 2023.
Why are restrictions still in place?
The site at Tealing was used for the 11-mile installation of underground cabling to connect the Seagreen wind farm to the national grid.
In June, it was confirmed the onshore cabling had been completed and the project was in its final phase, replanting the land affected by construction.
The speed limits are to remain in place until the land is restored.
A spokesman for the Seagreen project said: “We are now in the final phase of work that is reinstating and replanting the land affected by the cable route and we are still undertaking snagging and landscaping work at Tealing.
“We will keep the need for continuation of the reduced speed limit on the A90 under constant review with relevant authorities and it will be removed as soon as it is safe to do so.”
Safety is SSE’s ‘paramount concern’
Safety on and around the A90 continues to be of paramount concern, the spokesman added.
He said: “The speed restrictions continue to be in place to ensure the safety of our workforce and all other road users.
“We will continue to monitor and review project traffic levels in consultation with BEAR Scotland.
“We would again like to thank local residents and all other road users for their continued patience in respect of this essential traffic management measure.”
