Still Game funnymen Ford Kiernan and Greg Hemphill have delighted a Dundee pensioner who missed out on the duo’s recent visit to the city.
Broughty Ferry resident Ernie McKay hoped to meet the legendary comedians – better known as Jack and Victor – when they visited Dundee as part of their Scottish tour in September.
Hundreds queued up to the meet the stars of the hit BBC show at the Co-op in Barnhill, but unfortunately the pair had to leave before they could see everyone.
Those missing out included 81-year-old Ernie, who took his DVD of the show for the pair to sign and queued for over an hour.
But the duo have now signed his DVD, after a determined friend tracked them down.
Leann Sutherland, whose relative lives with Ernie at Balcarres Care Home in Broughty Ferry, heard about his disappointment and was determined to see what she could do.
After reaching out to the Still Game Facebook page without success, she decided to contact us here at DC Thomson.
She said: “He went to the store and they were too busy to see him.
“After the pandemic and residents being stuck in the care home, I just wanted to make him feel good for the day.
“Dundee being Dundee, it’s a good place where people want to help each other.
“I knew if anyone would be able to get in touch with them it would be the Tele.
“I just didn’t like the thought of this old man not getting something he’d waited for.
“I just wanted to help.”
We were able to organise for Ernie and Leann to send the DVD to Ford Kiernan and Greg Hemphill.
She has now handed the signed DVD over to Still Game super fan Ernie, who she says is always re-watching old episodes.
“He just loves the show, and he’s just such a nice, caring man.
“It was so special to give the signed DVD to him, it was really emotional,” a tearful Leann said.
Full of praise for the TV stars, Leann added: “It’s amazing they took the time to do it given how busy they are. It’s overwhelming that they wanted to help when they didn’t need to.”
