EXCLUSIVE VIDEO: New film highlights Dundee’s designers ahead of Design Festival 2017 launch

A new UNESCO video highlighting Dundee’s creativity is being screened for the first time ahead of this year’s design festival being launched.

The short film, which celebrates the best of the city’s thriving design industry, has been handed exclusively to The Courier.

Local creators and locations such as Dundee Contemporary Arts, the West Ward Works and both Abertay and Dundee universities are showcased in the video.

The video will be publicly screened for the first time at Creative Dundee’s Pecha Kucha event this evening.

The release comes shortly before plans for this year’s Dundee Design Festival will be revealed.

It is thought the programme for this year’s event will be announced later this week.

However, The Courier can exclusively reveal the annual celebration of creativity in Dundee has been extended to run five days from May 24-29.

Last year’s design festival, which was the first to be held in the city, ran for four days and attracted over 7,000 people.

The festival has also opened up entries for its first residency programme this year, pairing designers with factories across Scotland.

People interested in getting involved have until Monday March 6 to apply online via www.dundeedesignfestival.com.

Those selected for the programme will be asked to share their progress at the festival.
