A motorist has had a lucky escape after their car burst into flames in the middle of one of Dundee’s busiest roads.
The driver, who was said to be unaware of the blaze initially, was alerted to it by a passer-by and was able to exit the burning vehicle on East Marketgait.
Meanwhile there was traffic chaos as the nearby tunnel was temporarily closed while fire fighters dealt with the blaze.
Police are on the scene to remove the black Fiat, which was badly damaged at the front, following the incident at around 7.15pm.
No one is believed to have been injured and no suspicious circumstances were reported.
A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokeswoman said: “We used one hose reel jet and one breathing apparatus.
“We got the call at 7.15pm and the stop message came at three minutes to eight.
“The police are dealing with vehicle recovery.”
A Police Scotland spokesman added: “A passer-by alerted the driver to the fire, so it would appear that initially the driver was unaware of it.
