Image: Alan Richardson A busy Dundee road has reopened after a vehicle fire on Thursday night. Emergency services were called to Arbroath Road near Broughty Athletic Junior Football Club’s Whitton Park just before 7pm. Broughty Ferry Athletic JFC’s Whitton Park ground. Motorists were being advised to avoid the area as flames soared into the air bringing traffic to a standstill. Firefighters from Kingsway Fire Station were dispatched to the scene as crews used a hose reel jet to tackle the blaze. A spokesman for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) confirmed there were no casualties following the incident. Work was undertaken to remove melted plastic from the surface after the damaged vehicle was uplifted. The road has now reopened to motorists following the clean up. A spokesman for the SFRS said : “One appliance from Kingsway Fire Station was dispatched following reports of a vehicle well alight. “Firefighters used one hose reel jet and small gear at the scene. “We received the stop message at 7.35pm.”
