Dundee’s newest community council will meet with the manager of the city centre to hear plans on concerts set for the waterfront in the summer.
The woman in charge of managing the city centre, Sarah Craig, is to meet with the City Centre and Harbour Community Council on Tuesday evening to present arrangements for the series of music concerts planned for Slessor Gardens in May, June and July.
X Factor stars Olly Murs and Lilttle Mix are set to play in July and June respectively, not before reggae stalwarts UB40 take to the gardens in May.
Tickets for the Little Mix gig are sold out and only a few are left for the Olly Murs concert.
Residents of the city quay, harbour and city centre areas have previously questioned how the organising of the three concerts will play out, amid concerns over parking and general disruption.
Secretary of the new community council, Sheena Wellington, said the meeting will hopefully detail the full impact the concerts might have on residents.
She said: “Residents living in the city centre, at the quay and at the harbour have raised concerns about the upcoming concerts.
“There will be an impact on residents when the concerts are taking place, but we are hopeful the meeting will provide details and we will be able to discuss these further.
“We were quite reassured with what we heard previously, in regard to toilet provision and other arrangements, and Tuesday’s meeting will be a presentation on further plans.
“As a community council, we hope as many residents will come to the meeting at the Unicorn on Tuesday evening, and we are looking for as many residents from the city centre to join us.
“The community council will give a voice to residents, and if people have any worries regarding their community, we welcome them to join us.”
The City Centre and Harbour Community Council is so new, councillors have still to approve its establishment.
The neighbourhood services committee will meet on Monday, to vote on whether to approve its establishment.
Councillors will hear from a report from the executive director of neighbourhood services, which has recommended the establishment of the community council is approved.
If it is, then the City Centre and Harbour Community Council will join three other active community groups – Fintry, Broughty Ferry and West End.
