A man has died in a one-car crash on Lochee Road in Dundee.

The collision happened at around 3.30pm on Sunday, close to the junction with Rankine Street, and a 51-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police say nobody else was injured in the crash, involving a black Vauxhall Astra 2010 car.

The road was closed for two hours on Sunday, re-opening around 5.30pm.

The identity of the man has not been confirmed.

Appeal for information after fatal Lochee Road crash

Sergeant Gordon Dickson said: “I am appealing for anyone with information regarding this incident who has not already contacted police to get in touch.

“In particular I would ask any motorists with dash-cam footage to check it to see if they may have information that could assist in our investigation.”

“Anyone with information is asked to call Police Scotland via 101, quoting incident number 2224 of November 6.”

Drivers diverted away from scene

One motorist said: “I was driving down Lochee Road just as the police were arriving on the scene and putting down cones.

“We got diverted off the road so I guessed it may be something serious.

“It’s a pretty busy road so you wouldn’t close it for anything minor.

“Having said that there was no indication from what we saw that it was anything as bad as this.

‘It’s a real tragedy’

“Your heart goes out to all who knew the poor guy involved, it’s just a real tragedy.”

Residents living on Lochee Road also described seeing the police presence in the aftermath of the crash.

One local said: “I got back from work after 4pm and I saw the car on the grassy verge. I didn’t see what had happened before though, all I saw was the police cars there.”

Another told The Courier: “I had been out [shopping] in the afternoon and when I got back the road had been cordoned off by the police. There were two police cars there.”
