A Dundee shoplifter scared supermarket staff after brandishing a jar of Nutella at them.
Louise Dixon, 38, admitted threatening staff at Lidl on Dura Street after they asked her to leave.
After throwing items she had in her hands toward staff, she picked up a jar of the hazelnut spread and held it above her head.
This caused an employee there to “flinch”, Dundee Sheriff Court was told.
Brandished chocolate spread
Depute fiscal Kate Scarborough said: “At around 8pm, witnesses observed the accused enter the store.
“Witness Ms Samantha Jordan recognised the accused from a previous dealing.
“As a result of this, staff approached Dixon and asked her to leave the shop.
“She had three items in her hand at this time and on being asked to leave she threw the items towards the witnesses.
“She then began to walk towards the tills, shouting towards staff.
“She reached for a jar of Nutella from a shelf and held it above her head.
“This caused one of the witnesses to flinch, as they thought the accused was about to throw it at them.
“Witness Benjamin Lindsay saw what was occurring and asked the accused again to leave.
“She continued to shout and swear and refused to leave the shop.
“She shouted ‘do you think I am scared of you?’
“Police were contacted and at this point she left the store.”
Supervision
Defence solicitor Alexandra Short, in mitigation for Dixon, said: “The report explains her thoughts on the day.
“I would ask for a high level structured deferred sentence.
“This was an isolated incident, she has been out of trouble since.”
Dixon, of Dura Street, Dundee, admitted behaving in a threatening and abusive manner towards employees of Lidl on February 10 2020 at the Dura Street supermarket.
She did so by throwing goods on the ground, shouting and swearing at staff and brandishing a glass jar.
Sheriff John Rafferty placed Dixon on a 12-month supervision order.
