Tariffs for charging electric vehicles in Dundee are set to rise.
The city council has announced that rates for using fast and rapid EV chargers will increase by 5p per kilowatt hour (kWh) from December 1.
The change means that fast chargers will now cost 25p per kWh, with rapid chargers costing 30p per kWh.
The discounted tariff offered to Dundee residents will also increase for all chargers, going from 15p per kWh to 20p per kWh.
The fees come on top of the 38p connection charge that needs to be paid when using a charger for any period of time.
Overstay fees introduced at electric vehicle chargers
Meanwhile, penalty fees for staying too long have been introduced in order to encourage turnover at charging points.
EV drivers who use a rapid charger for more than 70 minutes or a fast charger for more than 190 minutes could now be issued a £10 overstay fee.
However, this fee will not apply to electric chargers in multi-storey car parks.
Energy prices blamed for Dundee electric tariff increase
The council has blamed the price increases on the “unprecedented” rise in energy costs this year.
A statement said: “Despite the increases it still costs less to charge an EV in Dundee than the average Scottish local authority cost.
“EV owners in Dundee registered with the council will be contacted direct to inform them of the changes.
“Dundee is recognised world-wide as a leading city in the introduction and support of electric vehicles and the council fleet runs to almost 190 EVs (the most of any UK local authority).
“Charging infrastructure in the city has continued to grow since it was first introduced in 2011 and there are now 313 charging points.
“The cost of charging was last revised in February this year.”
