Several streets in Dundee city centre are set to reopen following demolition work at the fire-ravaged former Robertson’s furniture store.
Demolition of Willison House has largely been completed, and the council says this has removed any danger to the public.
Bank Street will reopen alongside Willison Street on Thursday, while access to the Overgate car park will also return to normal.
The old Debenhams car park, which had been opened while work took place outside the main multi-storey site, will close on Wednesday evening.
Barrack Street is to remain closed while the site is cleared of debris and the demolition of a neighbouring single-storey building which was also damaged is carried out.
The roads were shut amid concerns the remains of the Robertson’s building could collapse.
Council officials who inspected the site after the blaze found the steel structure had buckled due to the heat.
Earlier this week, police confirmed six children had been charged in connection with the fire.
Mark Flynn, convener of Dundee City Council’s city development committee, has thanked the teams involved in responding to the damage.
He added: “Being in a prominent position and at the junction of three city centre streets it was important that we got them re-opened as quickly as possible, particularly in the run up to such a crucial time for retailers.”
Overgate Centre manager Malcolm Angus has also welcomed the reopening.
He said: “We would like to thank Dundee City Council and associated partners and sub-contractors for their swift action and hard work over the last two weeks, we can now look forward to welcoming customers back in to our car park.”
