A busy Dundee road was closed and two people taken to hospital after a crash involving a police car.
Clepington Road was closed at the junction with Strathmartine Road following the collision between a police car and a white Toyota Aygo, which happened early on Wednesday morning.
Two people, a male police officer and a woman who was in the Toyota, have been taken to Ninewells Hospital for treatment.
The road was closed for several hours for investigations, reopening in the afternoon.
One Clepington Road resident said he was woken by the commotion.
He said: “I woke up and all I could see was blue flashing flights from my window – I thought there was maybe a fire in the building.
“I didn’t see what happened until I came down in my pyjamas and saw there had been a crash.
“I didn’t hear a bang so I’m not sure exactly when it happened but it doesn’t look great.”
A passerby said: “The entire crossroads at Clepington Road and Strathmartine Road is closed by police and cars are being diverted away from the area.
“It looks as though a police car and white car have collided, the white car has its entire driver side door missing.
“I saw police taking pictures from inside the white car and writing things down.
“One officer was also measuring the road where the crash must have happened.”
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “A marked police vehicle was involved in a collision with a Toyota Aygo car driven by a member of the public around 5.55am on Wednesday.
“One male police officer and a woman from the car have been taken to Ninewells Hospital for treatment.
“The road was closed to allow for an investigation at the scene and has since reopened.”
