The next step in plans to transform the old Toys R Us in Dundee into a bowling alley have been revealed.
An application for a building warrant has been made, which will see the former toy shop at the Kingsway West Retail Park turned into a leisure park, including 29 bowling lanes.
Tenpin Ltd has applied to Dundee City Council for permission to complete initial work worth £800,000, including demolishing the building’s internal walls, floors and fixtures.
Overall planning permission for the leisure centre was granted in October, four years after Toys R Us closed.
As well as Dundee’s only bowling alley, the leisure centre will feature karaoke rooms, laser tag and an escape room.
Plans for 29-lane bowling alley at former Toys R Us approved
A full list of planned activities was revealed in the planning application:
- A 29-lane bowling alley
- Two karaoke rooms
- Table tennis and pool table zone with about 10 tables
- Escape room complex
- Multi-level soft play zone for kids aged three to 11
- Laser tag arena
- Games zone including arcade
- Licensed bar/restaurant
It is believed that the development could create 30 jobs in the area.
Tenpin already runs similar facilities in Glasgow, Falkirk and Edinburgh.
A statement from Ryden Planning submitted alongside the planning application said: “The economic benefits to the area would also include increased footfall to Dundee and Kingsway West as there is no other mixed-activity, family-orientated facility in the city.
“The centre will be a unique collection of indoor activities and adventure attractions.”
Tenpin has been contacted for comment about the next stage of work.
