A Dundee man says he has lost thousands of pounds’ worth of equipment after his garage was destroyed in a fire.
The building on Sherbrook Street, just off Strathmartine Road went up in flames at around 11am on Wednesday.
Three fire crews were called to tackle the blaze.
The cause is not yet known.
Robbie Carse, who owns the garage – which is next to his house – told The Courier: “I don’t know what started it yet.
“I was at work when my mum called me.
“My dog was cowering in the house but the firefighters got him out thankfully.
“The garage is absolutely destroyed. The roof of the car port just in front is completely melted.
“It’s my home gym – I’ve got my bench, rowing machines, cycling machines, running machine in there, and a fridge-freezer.
“It could be about £5,000 worth of damage.
“The house is fine but there’s maybe a bit of smoke damage.
“I’m shaking and just in shock this has happened, especially at this time of year.”
Police closed the road while fire crews dealt with the incident.
Local resident Klaudia Nowicka said she first saw the smoke from a distance.
She said: “I drove there once I saw the smoke from Kingsway, just in case nobody was home and emergency vehicles needed to be called.
“When I got there, there was one fire truck already with two other coming shortly after.
“I also went there as my friend has his back garden facing the fire and wanted to make sure his house wasn’t on fire either.
“It was hard to tell from the massive amount of flames and smoke whether it was coming from a shed or had already spread into the house.”
Another eyewitness said: “You could see the smoke billowing up from miles away.
“As you got closer, you could just smell burning.
“Police have closed the road.
“There were two fire engines there and it looked like the fire was coming from a garage, shed or even a car port at the side of a house.”
Firefighters left the scene around 1.15pm.
