The new Tesco Express store on Dundee’s Murraygate officially opened its doors on Friday.
It comes as part of a £6 million development of the area which includes 31 new flats for social rent.
The new building – constructed by West Ranga Property Group – replaces the former Xmas Shop which was destroyed by a fire in 2014.
The new store’s opening comes just over a month after another Tesco store was opened at Dundee train station.
There are now five Tesco stores in Dundee city centre, including those at the Nethergate, Riverside and Hawkhill.
A branch of the supermarket was previously located in the Murraygate, however it was forced to close after landlord Sports Direct ended their lease.
Tesco staff ‘hugely excited’ to open Murraygate store
Alan Calder, manager of the new store, said on Friday: “We’re hugely excited to be opening our Murraygate Express. The store opening will provide a real boost for the city centre and the local community.
“We will of course also promote Tesco’s Community Grants scheme, with the aim of donating thousands of pounds for local good causes that can help the community to flourish.
“We are doing this while still offering the community our best service and broad range of products such as fresh food and food to go – and we look forward to welcoming our first customers today.”
