A man was taken to hospital after an attack in Dundee city centre – with an off-duty nurse then having her bag stolen as she helped at the scene.
Police are investigating both incidents, which happened on Reform Street just after 9pm on Sunday.
The woman had her phone and handbag lifted from the street as she offered first aid to the assault victim until an ambulance arrived.
Her fiancé, who asked not to be named, told The Courier they were walking past McDonald’s when they saw the assault unfolding.
Good Samaritan has bag stolen
He said: “We were walking up the street and saw (two people) fighting, and the boy who was assaulted went down.
“The other guy started stamping on his head, so (my fiancée) just went into nurse mode and went to see to him while his pal was on the phone to the ambulance.
“The guy who did it ran away when people came over.”
The folk who stole the bag just walked past, lifted it and just kept walking
The witness says the thieves were unconnected to the original incident.
He added: “The folk who stole the bag just walked past, lifted it and just kept walking.
“It was right next to her, so I didn’t think to watch it or lift it.
“This has left her without a phone just as she travels for a training course, having only recently graduated.
“In the end she’d rather be without a bag and phone than the man die from his injuries having not received any care prior to paramedics arriving.”
Inquiries ongoing after Dundee assault
Police Scotland is still investigating both the assault and theft.
A spokesperson said: “We were made aware of an assault on a man on Reform Street in Dundee shortly after 9.05pm on Sunday.
“The man was taken to Ninewells Hospital for treatment.
“A bag was also stolen from a woman following the incident.”
