A two-year-old Dundee girl was left with cuts and concussion after a glass shower door shattered over her.
Paisley Rankine suffered injuries to her feet and body while showering in her Hilltown home on Monday.
Mum Courtney says she feared her daughter was “going to die” as the glass “narrowly” missed her throat.
Courtney, 25, claims she had previously raised concerns with Dundee City Council about the state of the shower in the local authority-owned property on Kinloch Street.
She says she had “half-opened” the sliding door to get Paisley out when it “just shattered”.
She told The Courier: “I pushed Paisley back as the glass was falling. She was trapped underneath a section of it.
‘I thought my kid was going to die’
“Thankfully I managed to get her out but there was blood coming from her feet, it was so scary.
“I thought my kid was going to die.
“We’ll have been in this house for three years this summer – from the day I moved in I’ve been concerned about the wear and tear on the shower.
“There was mould, the sealant was coming off and it was also prone to leaking into the flat below.
“This was all flagged to the council in July of last year.”
Courtney took Paisley to see a GP after her ordeal, where she was told the youngster had mild concussion.
Concerns about shower ‘ignored for nearly a year’
She was also kept off nursery as a precaution.
A council worker visited on Tuesday to assess the damage and clear the glass.
Courtney added: “The council worker came in and said, ‘This shouldn’t have happened’.
“I do worry that my concerns about the safety of the shower were ignored for nearly a year.
“The council were contacted on Monday and said they were treating the repair as an emergency.
“When I called back and gave them an update on my daughter they said it was no longer being treated as an emergency.
Council ‘taking steps to resolve issue’
“Thankfully Paisley hasn’t suffered any serious injuries.”
A spokesman for Dundee City Council said: “We are engaged in the matter and undertaking the necessary steps to resolve the issue.”
It comes as the local authority has announced a review into how it deals with reports of damp and mould in council properties.
