CCTV has captured the moment two masked yobs brazenly showed off to a camera before smashing up washing machines at a Dundee community hub.
Fairfield Pavilion on Drumgeith Road was targeted in the early hours of Monday.
Footage given to The Courier (above) shows the pair covering their faces as they approach the machines outside the pavilion.
One of them then walks up to the CCTV camera, while keeping his face disguised, and appears to give a thumbs up.
The other, wearing a balaclava with eyeholes cut out, then approaches the camera and removes a pole-like implement from a rucksack before waving it.
The yobs then return to the machines and both take turns at using the tool to smash the machines before they walk out of view.
The machines are available for members of the community to use and help support projects including Fairfield’s food larder.
They had only been replaced last week following previous vandalism.
The hub has been targeted several times in recent months, including earlier in January, when a fire caused thousands of pounds’ worth of damage.
Disgust at latest vandalism
Jim Sorrie, a director at Fairfield, says he is disgusted at the latest attack.
He said: “The new machines have been in place for less than a week.
“On this occasion they have destroyed two washing machines, a dryer, a car hoover and an air pump for tyres.
“As yet we don’t know the full value of the damage, however it will once again be in the thousands.”
Jim says Fairfield rents the washing machines but the firm offering them is now likely to withdraw their use.
He added: “We think this will mean we will have to stop offering the washing machine service at the very least.
“This is sheer vandalism. We have no idea at all why it keeps happening.
“No money can be taken from the equipment. These yobs only want to cause as much damage as possible.”
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “At 9.40am on Monday we received a report of vandalism to equipment at Fairfield Pavilion, Drumgieth Road, Dundee.
“Inquiries are ongoing. If anyone knows who is responsible, please contact Police Scotland on 101, quoting 0699 of January 23.”
