A bus driver in Dundee said he and his passengers are facing attacks “almost every night”.
The Xplore employee spoke out after an object was thrown at his bus while travelling through Fintry on Sunday night.
Nobody was injured but the driver aid a woman with a young baby had left the bus just a few stops earlier.
Photographs of the damage show glass strewn on the floor of the bus and a large section of the window missing following the attack on Fintry Drive, at around 8pm.
In the aftermath of the attack the driver described the lucky escape of passengers, saying the incident could have ended very differently.
He wrote on Facebook: “Luckily a woman with a baby in a pram was off my bus a few stops before an object was thrown at my bus in Fintry.
“It’s happening almost every night to us.
“A driver shouldn’t go to work with fear and passengers shouldn’t be using public transport with fear either.”
Xplore bus bosses have also hit out at what they called a “mindless act”, saying the actions of those responsible posed “a real danger” to passengers and the driver.
A spokesman for Xplore Dundee said: “We can confirm one of our vehicles was attacked but fortunately no staff or passengers were injured in this mindless act which poses a real danger to those on board.
“These are criminal incidents, which can carry a custodial sentence for those found guilty, and we will provide information to police to assist them in identifying perpetrators.”
‘If it happened in a shop people would be shocked’
He added: “We would be rightly shocked if people were subject to such attacks whilst in a café or shop and it should be no different when on a bus.”
Police Scotland confirmed an investigation has been launched.
A police spokesperson said: “We received a report of the window of a bus being smashed whilst it was driven in the Fintry Drive area of Dundee, around 8.10pm on Sunday.
“There were no reports of any injuries. Inquiries are at an early stage and ongoing.”
