Dundee United supporters today said farewell to loyal fan Randal Lumb, who has died aged 58.
He was a fixture at both Tannadice and Frews bar for decades and was known for his fun-loving antics and outgoing nature.
Randal passed away suddenly at home.
On Thursday as his funeral cortege left J and J Gray funeral directors in Dundee, his coffin was draped in a United shirt.
His friend Mark Jamieson, and pals from Frews, had arranged for the shirt to be printed with the number 58, in reference to Randal’s age.
Mourners were asked to wear bright colours rather than tangerine out of sensitivity to the many Dundee FC fans who Randal counted as friends.
The hearse left the Perth Road premises at 8.45am and headed for a last journey to Tannadice. It passed Frews and Randal’s home in Moncur Crescent on the way.
Mark said: “He was walked down Tannadice Street but rather than passing Dens we headed up Hindmarsh Avenue and onto the Clepy.”
Randal was a season ticket holder at Tannadice and travelled to away games with the Arctic Arabs based at the Club Bar.
Growing up in Dundee
Although he was born in the Inverness area, Randal had come to Dundee as a young boy and had grown up in Balmore Street.
The first time he saw Dundee United play they lost 3-0 to Partick Thistle but he was to witness their league title win at Dens in 1983 and subsequent cup triumphs.
As a younger man he had spent time working as a bookmaker with William Hill in London but for the past two decades, Randal had been a team leader at the Department of Work and Pensions in Ward Road, Dundee.
Mark said: “Randal was a very kind and generous person and would often make himself the butt of jokes to save others.
“He had a bright and bubbly personality, was a fun person and everyone will miss him.
“Randal was Frews’ golf captain and his circle of friends included supporters of Dundee FC, Rangers and Celtic.”
