A man has been arrested and taken to hospital for treatment after armed police swooped on a city street.
Ambrose Street in Broughty Ferry was closed while emergency services flocked to the scene on Sunday afternoon.
Locals reported seeing multiple police vehicles in attendance, with a police helicopter flying overhead.
Officers say they received a report of concern for a man in Forfar around 2pm – before tracing him to the Dundee suburb an hour later.
They confirmed inquiries into the incident are ongoing, while the extent of the man’s injuries is not known.
An eyewitness said: “There could be as many as a dozen police cars here.
“But I have no idea what it could be about. It could be anything.
“Ambrose Street is a very quiet street so it’s surprising to see.”
‘It’s quite a major police presence’
Another passer-by said: “The street is shut off and there’s a cop standing at the end.
“There are at least four police cars parked on the street and a white car appears to be stopped in the middle of the road but it’s hard to see what’s going on.
“It’s quite a major police presence and the street is really busy with activity.”
One woman described seeing a person taken away in cuffs.
She said: “There were 10 police [cars] plus four swat squads.
“They boxed in a car.
“The person driving the car was handcuffed and the car has now been taken away.”
Police inquiries ongoing
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “We received a report of concern for a man in Whig Street, Forfar around 1.55pm on Sunday.
“He was later traced in Ambrose Street, Broughty Ferry around 3.10pm.
