A Dundee McDonald’s was forced to shut briefly after police were called to a fight in the restaurant.
Officers raced to the outlet on Reform Street in the city centre at around 4pm on Thursday.
It is understood an altercation between two women started in the toilets before spilling out into the main service area and on to the street.
Customers told The Courier one women fled the scene.
McDonald’s staff kept customers outside
McDonald’s staff were forced to keep some customers outside before police arrived.
One customer said: “There was shouting coming from the toilets before the women were fighting out on the shop floor.
“It ended up outside on Reform Street.
“One of the women went away from the scene and the other woman involved was still standing outside when the police arrived.”
‘You’d expect this late on a Friday or Saturday’
Another customer said: “I was just standing waiting to get in but the staff asked if folk could just hang fire and they would get in shortly.
“As soon as the police arrived customers were getting back in.
“Folk were still inside eating and delivery drivers were waiting on orders.
“I felt for the staff. You’d expect this maybe late on a Friday and Saturday night but it was just the back of four in the afternoon.”
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “At around 4pm on Thursday, officers were called to reports of a disturbance at a premises on Reform Street, Dundee.
“Inquiries are ongoing.”
A spokesman for McDonald’s branded the incident “totally unacceptable”.
Dundee McDonald’s ‘briefly closed’
He said: “The safety and security of our people and customers is our absolute priority, and this behaviour is totally unacceptable.
“To protect other customers and our people, we briefly closed the dining area until the police arrived.
“We will be supporting the police with any investigation they may conduct on this matter.”
