Wrestling stars come back to Dundee for more

The 5 Star event first visited Dundee in January.

A Dundee wrestling promoter says lessons have been learned as he promises to bring “one of the most popular wrestling stars on the planet” to the City of Discovery.

5 Star Wrestling’s January show saw more than 2000 fans flock to Dundee Ice Arena to witness household names including Rey Mysterio enter the ring.

The event, which was aired live on Freeview, proved successful, but did lead to some fans complaining about a lack of security and issues with seating.

5 Star promoter Daniel Hinkles admits he has learned a “hell of a lot” since January’s event and insists this summer’s gathering will be “bigger and better”.

Mr Hinkles said: “We’ve listened to what the fans have said, and not just the good stuff.

“The feedback from everyone has been instrumental in shaping our events going forward.

“Dundee was our fifth show and to get a TV deal for our fifth show, there was a lot of pressure there.

“This time we have a lot more stewards on hand. There was no trouble reported to us last time, but we found some people were leaving their seats and found other people sat on them when they came back.

“There will be more stewards on hand this time to give fans better access to things.”

Improving access to meet and greet sessions is another area Daniel hopes this summer’s event can improve on.

With lessons learned from last winter’s debut Dundee show, Daniel is adamant July’s event will prove to be hugely popular with fans.

He said: “We had 2300 people last time, which was huge. But we can absolutely beat our record for this show.

“We’re fully intent on making this a great show for people to watch. Everyone will be able to see this, we’re very proud of that.”

He said the next event “will be even bigger and better and the roster will truly be one of a kind.”

5 Star Wrestling comes to Dundee Ice Arena on Saturday July 8.
