Visitors to a Dundee cemetery say they are disgusted after a burnt-out car was left dumped just yards from graves.
It is thought the vehicle has been in Eastern Cemetery on Arbroath Road for about a fortnight.
There are now calls for it to be removed out of respect for mourners and those laying loved ones to rest.
Dog walker Alexander Fox told The Courier an area of the cemetery was coned off after the fire.
The 74-year-old said: “I certainly think it should have been moved by now and it’s disappointing it’s still sitting there – especially for folk who have loved ones in that area of the cemetery.
“(Dog) George and I walk through here every day.
“It has been coned off for a few weeks now – it’s not nice it’s sitting there.”
A 71-year-old woman who regularly walks in the cemetery says the car is parked close to an area where new burials take place.
She said: “To come and see that must be difficult.
“There is element of disgust that it’s still sitting there. I’m assuming people who would deal with such matters are aware the car is there.
‘It’s disrespectful to people laying loved ones to rest’
“The graveyard in general is well maintained by the groundskeepers and I thought the car would have been removed by now.”
Another visitor, who asked not to be named, said: “There were police in the graveyard around February 13 looking at the car.
“It’s fortunate the trees never caught fire.
“The fact it’s sitting there still is disrespectful to people laying loved ones to rest.
“It’s a mess sitting in the corner of the cemetery.”
A spokesperson for Dundee City Council, which runs the cemetery, said: “We are taking the necessary steps for the vehicle to be removed.”
Police Scotland confirmed there was an ongoing investigation into the incident.
A spokesman said: “We were made aware of a vehicle on fire at Eastern Cemetery in Dundee shortly after 1.30am on Tuesday, 14 February.
“The fire was extinguished by the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service and no one was injured.
“The car subsequently reported as having been stolen in the Dundee area and inquiries are ongoing.”
