Plans for the final phase of the redevelopment of a Dundee housing estate have been revealed.
Nearly 50 new homes will be built on Hebrides Drive in Mill o’ Mains if proposals from Home Housing Group are approved.
It forms the fourth and last phase of the regeneration of the area, made up of more than 300 new houses in total.
A statement lodged with Dundee City Council said: “This application is in respect of the erection of 48 affordable residential units and associated road infrastructure and landscaping and is part of the wider Mill o’ Mains Community Regeneration Masterplan.”
The masterplan was approved in 2009 and old houses and blocks of flats were demolished to make way for the new development.
The statement added: “The masterplan was approved with the proviso a better connected place was created with a desirable housing mix of two, three and four-bedroom family homes for affordable rent.
“The first phases of the masterplan have been completed to a high standard, providing all residents access to private gardens… while the village green with landscaped area at the centre of the estate was opened in summer 2018, providing a central space for organised community events and an area for outdoor play.”
Mill o’ Mains has ‘waited a long time for this’
Mill o’ Mains community activist Jim Malone has welcomed the proposals.
He said: “We have waited a long time for this and it’s great news for the area that these plans are now in front of the local authority.
“The regeneration of the area so far has been a great success and these further affordable homes are very much needed for local families as well as for young people and the elderly.
“I would also hope that the local community will be fully included in any consultations going forward.”
