Tributes are being paid to 16-year-old Dundee girl Lennix Hughes after her death on Saturday.
In a post on social media, Lennix’s mum Wendy Bertie said her daughter had been “the most caring soul” with a “smile that could light up any room”.
Police confirmed the death of a 16-year-old in the early hours of Saturday morning was being treated as unexplained.
Officers had been called to the Dudhope Gardens area of Dundee following reports that a teenager had become unwell.
Emergency crews transported the youngster to Ninewells Hospital in Dundee but she was pronounced dead a short time later.
The teenager was later named locally as Lennix Hughes.
Friends and family of the teenager, a former Grove Academy pupil, have been sharing tributes online.
Writing on Facebook, mum Wendy said: “Our beautiful baby sadly passed away on the morning of Saturday.
“We are absolutely broken and can’t imagine this life without her by our sides.”
She added: “Everyone that knows Lennix will agree she is the most caring soul with the biggest smile that could light up any room she walked in.
‘We are the luckiest people to have had 16 amazing years with her’
“The most affectionate girl with a fiery personality; the girl who always made us laugh no matter how much we didn’t want to and a hug from her could fix anything in an instant.
“We are the luckiest people on this earth to have had 16 amazing years with her.
“Lennix you were just far too beautiful for this horrible world.”
A large police presence remains outside a home on Dudhope Gardens where neighbours reported significant activity over the weekend.
One resident said the police had not left the area since arriving on Saturday morning.
They added: “They’ve not been asking anyone questions or anything – it’s been me asking them what’s going on.
“This is street is usually quiet.”
The teen’s former school have also paid tribute, with headteacher Graham Hutton saying: “We are shocked and saddened by this news and pass on our heartfelt condolences and love to Lennix’s family.
“We will be supporting pupils affected by her passing and the school will look at ways to remember her.”
