Veteran councillor Ian Borthwick continued his decades of unbroken service after narrowly being elected in Strathmartine.
The 78-year-old was elected on the seventh round of voting, ahead of the Liberal Democrats Daniel Coleman by just a handful of votes.
SNP group leader John Alexander and party colleague Stewart Hunter were both re-elected alongside Labour group leader Kevin Keenan.
Mr Hunter said: “We’re really positive about the support we’ve been seeing across Dundee.
“John and myself have put a lot of hard work in for Strathmartine.”
Mr Alexander picked up the most first preferences, receiving 1956 votes.
