Dundee Contemporary Arts has launched a major new short film competition.
Run in conjunction with Arbroath-based Ironstar films, the Ironstar International Short Film Festival will showcase submissions from independent film-makers from Scotland and around the world.
The competition is now open for submission. Each film can be up to 20 minutes in length and can be in any genre.
Selected films will be screened at DCA on Sunday, August 6 and will be in the running for a range of awards including the audience-nominated Best Short category.
Other award categories include best horror, best sci-fi, best action/thriller, best comedy, best animation and best Scottish.
DCA’s head of cinema Alice Black said: “We are always delighted to have an opportunity to support the local film-making industry and jumped at the chance to team up with Ironstar productions to host their first International Short Film Festival in August.
“This is a brand new project which we hope will put local, national and international films on the map in Dundee.”
Graeme Carr from Ironstar Films added: “With the Ironstar Short Film Festival we are hoping to provide an opportunity for local, national and international film-makers to showcase their films in Dundee and provide the local community with an opportunity to see what independent short film has to offer.”
Mr Carr added: “DCA has been a huge help in setting up this event and are providing an amazing venue that will allow the selected films to be seen at their very best, on the big screen.
“We hope if this event proves successful that it can grow and not only provide an opportunity to showcase the independent film-making talent but also hopefully provide through prizes and awards the opportunity to help film-makers to continue to develop both locally and across the globe.”
Ironstar Films was set up in 2014.
The final deadline for submissions is July 10.
