A Dundee mum no longer feels safe in her own home after a thief stole cash and other items while she slept.
Aivita Garbacova contacted police after discovering her backpack was taken from her address at Pitalpin Court.
A Huawei Smart Watch and around £70 worth of cash was stolen during the incident on Wednesday morning.
Aivita, 33, only became aware that a black backpack – containing the items – was missing as she was about to take her oldest child to school.
Speaking to The Courier, the mother-of-two said she believes the incident was connected to a female approaching her door just before 7am.
She said: “That morning the woman was standing inside the front door in a small corridor inside the property.
“She was just about to enter the second door into my flat when I met her.
“The woman told me she knew my neighbour and asked if I had a lighter and a screwdriver.
“I found the whole incident very strange given the time of day, she apparently needed the screwdriver to open the neighbours door.
“It wasn’t until she left I’d discovered that my front door hadn’t been properly secured. That’s how she’d been able to get into the corridor.
“My house keys were still inside the front part of the second door.
“Whilst it was locked internally the keys were accessible to anyone to unlock it.
“As soon as she left I made sure the door was locked.”
Aivita said the missing black backpack also contained her driving license, perfume and documents for her salon business.
‘It’s a nightmare’
She added: “Whilst the woman never had anything in her possession that time I do think this was her coming back.
“Given the front door wasn’t secured I believe the bag was taken before while we were sleeping.
“It’s a nightmare as the bag contained documents for the business, a bottle of perfume, a smart watch – it’s hundreds of pounds worth of stuff.
“Since this happened I’ve been having sleepless nights thinking about it – anything could’ve happened.”
A spokeswoman for Police Scotland confirmed they force is investigating the incident.
She said: “We are aware of the matter and looking into it.”
