Politicians and volunteers gave up their time to send a 45 foot container packed with almost 25 tonnes of donations to Syria.
Organised by Dundee The Caring City, multiple tonnes of donations were packed into a haulage truck, where they will be driven to Belgium and then on to Syria.
Dundee parliamentary candidate Chris Law and Dundee East MSP Shona Robison were among the volunteers helping organise the massive load.
Mike Strachan, from the charity, said: “It has been absolutely breathtaking.
“People are sending hope instead of threat and the chance of some sort of life, or comfort, over there.
“There’s so much going on just now that you sometimes feel the plight of the refugees in these countries gets overshadowed or even forgotten.
“I think it’s really important that we keep promoting it and keep looking for donations coming in, both material and financial.
“Imagine if the geography changed and it was us, what would you want for your children, for your loved ones?
“People are fleeing their homes with nothing but the clothes on their back. Hopefully we can give them some warm clothes, new shoes, anything that we’ve got really.”
Shona Robison MSP, said: “It’s amazing the amount of stuff which has been donated and the turnout to help load the truck.
“People are very generous. Quite often the guys will come in and the place will be full of donations that have been left overnight.
“It’s going to a good cause in Aleppo, where they’re desperate for stuff we all take for granted every day.
“All of these donations will be really well used.”
Dundee parliamentary candidate Chris Law said: “It’s a total privilege to be able to help out with this incredible campaign to assist people in Syria.
“It (the donations) is utterly phenomenal. It really makes me quite emotional to see how much people care and how much people are willing to contribute to help people in such a desperate plight in Syria.
“It’s fantastic.”
