A pregnant Dundee mum says she was “sickened” after her flat was trashed during a break-in.
The 24-year-old, who has asked to remain anonymous, was staying with her mum when her Dura Street flat was turned over late last month.
Two TVs, including a 75-inch model, were taken and clothes belonging to her and her two-year-old son were left strewn across several rooms.
The woman, who is six months pregnant with her second child, says she has not been able to stay at the flat since.
‘I don’t feel safe in my home’
She said: “I was staying with my mum for a few days – this is something I tend to do as I don’t feel safe in my home.
“I’ve been trying to get rehomed for a while now.
“When I received the call on the Sunday morning about the break-in, I made my way down to my flat.
“My front door was wide open. I was lost for words at the state of the place.
“From the minute you walked in there were belongings everywhere – every room in the house was trashed.
“Things were ripped from cupboards, even including my son’s bedroom and toys.
“It’s just hard to come to terms with – I felt sickened and was very upset that our family home was taken from us.”
The woman, who is a tenant with Hillcrest, says it is unclear how the thieves got into her flat.
‘I cannot step foot in the flat’
She added: “The forensics officers found fingerprints on the window.
“There were also some footprints.
“We’ve lived here for almost two years.
“I physically cannot bring myself to go back and step foot or stay in that flat.
“I cannot even go past it without getting flashbacks of the state of the home and it just gets me down.
“I don’t understand why it was mine – I keep myself to myself and don’t have grudges with anyone to make them do this.”
A spokesperson for Police Scotland said: “Police received a report of a housebreaking on Dura Street, Dundee on Sunday March 26.
“The incident is believed to have occurred sometime over that weekend and inquiries are ongoing.”
A Hillcrest Homes spokesman said: “We’re aware of a break-in at a property on Dura Street, and have been liaising with Police Scotland and the tenant to offer advice and support.
“As this is currently an active investigation, unfortunately, we are unable to comment further at this time.”
