The detective in charge of a Dundee murder investigation says officers are following “positive lines of inquiry” in their pursuit of Gary McMillan’s killer.
The 44-year-old father and grandfather was found stabbed in Lawton Terrace in the early hours of Tuesday morning.
Police have now formally identified Mr McMillan as the victim of the horrific attack.
Detective Inspector Ged Fitzpatrick, who is leading the investigation, said: “We are following a positive line of inquiry in relation to the death of Mr McMillan.
“I would like to stress that this was an isolated incident.
“I would also appeal to anyone with information, no matter how insignificant you think it might be to please come forward, particularly anyone who was in the Lawton Terrace area of Dundee in the early hours of Tuesday May 16.
“I would like to take this opportunity to thank the local community for their patience whilst enquiries are being carried out in the area.”
A major investigation was launched following the discovery of Mr McMillan’s body.
Lawton Terrace and part of Lawton Road were both sealed off while forensic officers scoured the scene for clues.
Residents living in nearby Byron Street said they heard shouting around 2am, moments before Mr McMillan died.
Armed police have been seen in the area and police visited a number of addresses around Dundee on Tuesday night as they searched for the man responsible.
