Residents of a Dundee street say someone “could have been killed” after a driver fled the scene of a four-car crash.

Police were called to Marryat Street at around 3am on Saturday morning after locals reported a “massive bang”.

The occupants of a Seat fled the scene after colliding with a parked Mazda 3 Sport and black Mitsubishi Lancer Ex.

A fourth vehicle also suffered minor damage during the incident.

One local resident, who did not wish to be named, believed the Seat may have been travelling at around 50mph before the crash.

The 37-year-old said the driver and at least one other male left the vehicle before running towards Caird Avenue.

He said: “The Seat came into the street via Provost Road and collided with the parked Mazda which then collided with the Mitsubishi.

‘Massive bang’ after Dundee crash

“A fourth vehicle suffered minor damage but there was a massive bang when it happened – it was some noise.

“Before they fled the scene their vehicle spun back and was facing towards the junction with Provost Road.

“I reckon by the extent of the damage they were travelling at least 50mph before the collision.

“Neither man appeared to be injured as they bolted towards Caird Avenue.

“The police had the sniffer dog out when they arrived on the scene.

“In the early hours of this morning the police removed the car responsible shortly after the crash.”

Thilina Rajapathiranalage, who lives on Marryat Terrace, fears his Mitsubishi will be written-off.

The 38-year-old was about to head to Perth on Saturday when he discovered the damage to his car.

He said: “We were just on our way to go and walked down to the car and saw the extent of the damage.

“It’s just a horrible situation, I’m thankful no one has been injured – someone could’ve been killed.

“I only bought the car last month and I fear it will be written-off but I’m talking to the insurance company.

“The car must’ve been travelling at some speed to have caused this damage.”

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 2.55am on Saturday we were called to a report of a car crashing into a parked vehicle in the Marryat Street area of Dundee.

“There are no reports of any injuries and inquiries are ongoing.”
