A shopkeeper was rushed to hospital after an alleged stabbing during an attempted robbery bid at a Dundee newsagent.
Police were called to Linlathen Store on Glenconnor Drive at around 8.30am on Saturday.
Residents said a cordon was placed around the business as an investigation was launched.
Police Scotland confirmed a 37-year-old man has now been charged and is expected to appear at Dundee Sheriff Court on Tuesday.
The shopkeeper suffered an injury to his head and was released from Ninewells Hospital before the store reopened around 2pm.
Neighbours living near the newsagent described the incident as “scary” as police conducted door-to-door inquiries.
One woman told The Courier five police units had been in attendance alongside two ambulance crews.
‘The family who run the store have been here for a long time’
She said: “The first thing I was alerted to was a loud bang, then I heard the sirens.
“There was loads of police here around the time of the incident, I saw the first officer running into the shop.
“The family who run the store have been here for a long time.
“There were two ambulances here and then the cordon was put in place.
“It was an extensive cordon.
“It was scary to see the scene outside, officers came to our door and asked if we’d heard anything.
“CID were here for a period as part of the investigation.”
‘Serious assault and an attempted robbery’
A spokeswoman for the force said: “Officers were called around 8.30am on Saturday, 8 April, 2023 to a report of a serious assault and an attempted robbery at a business premises on Glenconnor Drive, Dundee.
“A 41-year-old man was taken by ambulance to Ninewells Hospital for treatment and has since been discharged.
“A 37-year-old man has been arrested and charged in connection with the incident. He is due to appear at Dundee Sheriff Court on Tuesday, 11 April, 2023.”
