A Dundee takeaway manager has slammed a “scumbag” thief who stole cash and a charity box during an early morning break-in.
Istanbulie on Union Street contacted police after a smash-and-grab raid on the store on Monday.
Manager, Kamil Orzlowski, said the intruder had used a rock to penetrate the bottom glass panel of the door.
Upon entering the building he was captured on CCTV checking the till before making off with a small sum of cash.
Kamil, 34, said they’ve been supplied further footage which shows the man entering the street from Yeaman Shore.
‘He hides in the shadows’
He said: “The guy was casing the place out, he used a rock to break the glass and then starts kicking it.
“After it breaks he hides in the shadows of one of the other businesses to see if anyone looks out.
“The owner has had this business for ten years and never had any issues until this scumbag came in.
“There was a small sum of cash and a charity box we had on the counter that were taken, he also looked in the fridges.”
Kamil said the early morning raid cost the business nearly £200 to get the door repaired after forensic officers carried out their inquiries.
He added: “Thankfully this didn’t impact the days business but we were so shocked by how brazen this guy was.
“Although it was the early hours of the morning it’s a busy street with a number of residential properties.
“It’s hard to really place how old the guy might have been. He was wearing shorts and had his hood up.”
Store owner, Rashid Ismail said he was “angered” after watching the CCTV back of the incident.
He said: “We’d not long closed up for the night and gone home to our families and this guy is smashing his way in.
“The barber next door had seen the door was smashed in the morning and contacted us.
“It angered me watching it back on the CCTV.
“He’s stolen a charity box which had been supplied from the Dundee Central Mosque.”
Police Scotland confirmed inquiries were ongoing into the break-in.
