A Dundee family say they have been left devastated after their dog was killed on the A90.
Maddie, a Shar Pei belonging to the Taylor family, took off into the middle of the dual carriageway and was hit by a car last week.
It is thought Maddie got spooked while walking off the lead close to her home at Dykes of Gray.
Owner Scott, 41, hopes someone may have witnessed the collision and can provide the family with some closure about what happened.
He said: “The incident happened on April 11 just before 2pm.
“Maddie was with a dog walker close to the A90 dual carriageway near the BP garage at Bullionfield when we understand she took fright at something and ran into the middle of the road.
“We don’t know exactly what happened and we are all heartbroken.
“If anyone witnessed this or even has dashcam footage it might help us understand what happened and get closure to this awful situation.”
Scott – along with wife Jodie and six-year-old daughter Bella – raced to the scene after being told about the collision by the dog walker.
He said: “I could see her and just stopped my car and rushed to her.
“I pulled her off the road and immediately began CPR. All the time my little girl had to witness what was happening.”
Dog died on son’s 17th birthday
Maddie was pronounced dead on arrival at the vets.
He added: “It was horrific. We are all absolutely devastated and traumatised.
“It happened on my son Cole’s 17th birthday so his day was obviously completely ruined.
“My other daughter, Eden, 13, got Maddie for her birthday a few years ago so we are all heartbroken.
“Bella and Maddie were together all the time and Bella is missing her so much.”
The incident was reported to police later in the day.
It is understood the driver of the vehicle involved also contacted officers.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 4.15pm on Tuesday April 11, police were called to a report of a dog being struck by a car on the A90 near the Invergowrie area, Dundee.
“Emergency services attended and the dog died as a result of the incident.”
