A Dundee child molester sprinted from angry scenes in court after being placed on curfew.
Local businessman Thomas Dolan, 66, was placed on the Sex Offenders Register and made subject to a six-month restriction of liberty order, confining him to his house between 7pm and 7am.
Dolan, of Baldovan Terrace, had previously admitted committing a sexual assault on a girl – who cannot be named for legal reasons – at an address in Dundee.
Jeers of “what a joke” were heard from the public gallery at Dundee Sheriff Court as sentence was passed.
The length of curfew was reduced because Dolan pled guilty at an early stage.
Police and court staff eventually had to move disgruntled observers away from the building.
Dolan – known as Tam – shook in the dock as Sheriff George Way passed sentence, before he returned to his seat while relatives of his victim were ushered from the court room.
Ran from court
The pensioner had admitted molesting the teenager between 2014 and 2015.
She was between 14 and 15 years old at the time.
The former bricklayer touched her underneath her clothes, grabbing her breast.
Sentencing, Sheriff George Way said: “It seems to me it is necessary to remind Dolan that he needs to understand he has pled guilty to a serious sexual assault.
“His liberty could be taken away from him.
“He has not been deemed suitable for the Tay project (to manage sex offenders).
“However, there are options available.
“I would have imposed eight months restriction of liberty order but this will be reduced to six months because of his plea.”
Dolan will also be subject to the notification requirements of the Sexual Offenders Register for five years and given an electronic tag.
The sex offender ran from the steps of the court building following the hearing on Thursday morning to avoid being photographed.
