More than 20 new jobs are likely to be created as part of a half-million pound investment in two Dundee bars.
The Mercantile bar on Commercial Street and The Gunner’s bar in Broughty Ferry will be made over after Heineken announced they were to invest £500,000 in both properties.
The Mercantile will undergo an extensive rebrand with a proposed new name – A. Smith Merchant – while The Gunner’s will become a “dynamic rustic urban bar” offering “premium” drinks and pizzas.
Gary Corney, operations director for Star Pubs & Bars, said: “Heineken is passionate about creating great pubs and supporting the licensees that run them. Invested pubs attract more customers, are visited more often by people using them for different occasions throughout the day. Customers tend to buy more premium products which creates more profitable and sustainable businesses for licensees.
“Once we have licensees on board, our investment in upgrading The Mercantile and The Gunners Bar will create pubs that people want and use, enhance the local community and benefit the local economy.”
The Mercantile, which has been closed for more than a year, will be “transformed” into a “contemporary upmarket modern industrial” bar.
