Police were called to a Dundee church on Thursday evening to respond to reports of a suspicious package.
Local homeowners reported seeing four police vans and uniformed officers patrol the area around Strathmartine Parish Church.
One female resident, who asked not to be named, said her husband was told to “stay indoors” as officers worked to establish if there was a viable threat.
The witness said the brown package in question had the word “Bomb” scribbled on it.
A section of Strathmartine Road was closed as officers carried out their work.
A Police Scotland spokesperson confirmed: “Police Scotland can confirm that they were called to an address in Strathmartine Road around 8pm yesterday (Thursday 25th May) in response to reports of a suspicious package having been left there.
“A cordon was put in place which caused a small amount of disruption to local traffic for a period.
“The package was examined and found to be non-hazardous, and the local restrictions were lifted.”
