A man was taken to hospital after being scalded with boiling water during an assault in Dundee.
Police and paramedics were called to Hilltown Terrace at around 3am on Sunday.
Neighbours raised the alarm after hearing the 42-year-old victim “screaming” at the roadside.
The extent of the man’s injuries has not been confirmed.
One resident told The Courier the victim complained he “couldn’t see” as he waited to be taken to hospital.
‘He was screaming in pain’
The 31-year-old man, who asked not to be named, said: “I could hear he was screaming in pain and trying to get cars to stop but folk were driving past him.
“We went out to try and help. He said somebody scalded him with boiling water that had been thrown in his face.
“The victim was saying that he couldn’t see before the emergency services arrived on the scene.
“An ambulance attended and the guy was taking away to Ninewells Hospital.
“There are always things happening in this area but I was surprised to hear the guy was scalded with boiling hot water.”
Police were conducting door to door inquiries on Sunday afternoon in nearby Hilltown Court as part of the investigation.
A 74-year-old woman who has lived in the area for more than 20 years says she saw several men running from the scene.
She said: “I’d fallen asleep in the living room and must’ve woken up at around 3am.
“The person was groaning in pain. I saw two or three men running down towards the bottom of the Hilltown around that time.”
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 3am on Sunday, police were called to the Hilltown Terrace area of Dundee, following the reported assault of a 42-year-old man.
“The man was taken to hospital for treatment and inquiries are ongoing.”
