Residents in a converted former Dundee bar say they have “serious concerns” about the state of the building – just six years after it was turned into flats.
Twelve homes were created when the former Sinatra’s bar was transformed in 2017.
The King Street pub, named after legendary singer Frank Sinatra, was a popular nightspot for nearly 30 years.
It closed in April 2011 and sat empty until it was converted into housing.
Now a number of residents have reported water pouring into their properties and timber decay in the B-listed building.
It comes just weeks after residents in the former Eastern Primary School building in Broughty Ferry reported similar problems in their luxury properties.
James F Stephen Architects – which is also overseeing the Eastern Residences project – has applied to the council for permission to carry out work to fix the issues at King Street and Cowgate.
The firm has been commissioned to do the repairs by the building’s factors, Taylor & Martin Property Management.
Several owners report issues with water
A statement lodged with Dundee City Council on behalf of the owners said: “Following the conversion works, serious concerns have arisen regarding the condition of the building fabric, principally related to serious issues of water ingress/penetration and timber rot/decay reported by several of the apartment owners.”
It states that making the repairs will “ensure the building is returned to a wind and watertight condition”.
Dundee City Council will consider the plans in the coming weeks.
As well as being a former pub, the building was also once home to a hairdressers.
The first properties were sold in 2017 for between £100,000 and £200,000.
At the time, developer Lee Chadwick of West One Properties hinted that a plaque may be installed to mark the legacy of Sinatra’s.
But the bus stop outside, still known to Dundonians by the name of the pub, is the only reminder of the venue.
The bar was the brainchild of local businessman Ian Hindmarsh whose plan was to provide an “outstandingly comfortable and stylish lounge bar for Dundonians”.
It was, at one point, one of the biggest pubs in Dundee.
