A disqualified driver was arrested after getting caught trying to kick-start a motorbike.
Passing police deemed Guy Weston to be “in control” of the bike just by pushing it along the street and trying to start the engine, which was not in “working order”.
A “raging” Weston told police he was only six-months short of completing his ban.
However, the 40-year-old admitted driving without insurance and while disqualified after police charged him with being in control of the off-road vehicle last summer.
Weston, of Kilwinning Place, had been banned at a previous hearing.
Despite his guilty plea, he was admonished at Dundee Sheriff Court due to the “rather strange” circumstances of the incident on Aboyne Avenue on July 19 last year.
Bike was not even working
Depute fiscal Calum Brown told the court: “The incident occurred at around 9pm on July 19.
“Officers observed the accused in full control of an off-road motor bike, by pushing it along the street and trying to jump-start it.
“Officers exited their vehicle and placed hands on the vehicle.
“Comments made under caution were: ‘I am raging. I only had six months left on my ban’.”
Defence solicitor Jim Laverty, in mitigation for Weston, said: “The circumstances surrounding this case are rather strange.
“I hope your lordship would be able to admonish him.
“He tried to kick-start a motorcycle.
“The bike was not in working order.
“The engine was not even running.”
‘Unusual circumstances’
Sheriff Jillian Martin-Brown did admonish Weston.
She said: “I take into account what has been said by your solicitor on your behalf.
“Given the unusual circumstances, I will admonish you.”
It means although he faces no further punishment on the matter, it will be on his record.
